Jambo and Coinbase Partner to Provide Mobile Devices and Onchain Services in Africa, Asia, and South America
Jambo, the leading builder of web3 mobile infrastructure to unlock the digital economy in emerging markets, today announced its partnership with Coinbase, the most trusted place to buy, sell, store, and transfer digital currencies.
JamboPhones will now feature Coinbase Wallet, a self-custody crypto wallet, by default, and will seamlessly integrate with onchain applications built on Base, the secure Ethereum L2 designed to help bring a billion users onchain.
JamboPhone is available in over 120 countries, and the partnership aims to facilitate developing countries' access to the world's financial market. The Jambo and Coinbase collaboration not only enhances access to digital technologies but also paves the way for financial inclusion in regions where traditional banking has been out of reach.
The Challenge
In regions like Africa, 57% of the ~1.5bn population remains unbanked, and almost half the population do not have access to a smartphone. Similarly, roughly 50% and 26% of the populations in Southeast Asia and Latin America respectively are unbanked.
The collaboration between Jambo and Coinbase gives these populations access to low-cost onchain payments. Stablecoin transactions on Base can cost less than 1 cent and are available to anyone with internet access.
"In many regions across emerging markets, an entire family shares one smartphone and each family member can only use it for a few hours a day. Owning a JamboPhone liberates them to fully engage in the digital future."
"Onchain opens up financial services to anyone with access to the internet. With Base and Coinbase Wallet, you can send and receive onchain payments to anyone, anywhere in just seconds, for less than 1 cent."
